Liu Hui was a Chinese mathematician who edited and published the book The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art. Liu Hui is best known for his commentaries and straight forward explanations of mathematical concepts such as the Pythagorean Theorem, the calculation of Pi, and decimal fractions. He had an aptitude for writing algebraic proofs in an algorithmic context, establishing that a small number of operations guide most algorithms.
